Kalahari strengthen link with Namibia and Zenith crusher

Kalahari Minerals plc ‒ which owns 43% of Namibia-focused Extract Resources Limited ‒ has given a re-assurance that it remains confident that its strong relationship with the government of Namibia will continue to bear fruit.

Extract’s main asset is the US$1.659 billion Husab uranium mine, located approximately 45km north-east of Namibia’s main port, Walvis Bay. It has a current resource of 367Mlb, establishing it as the fifth largest global uranium deposit.Consistently high assay results have identified the Husab project as the largest in-situ and highest grade granite-hosted uranium deposit in Namibia, with a current JORC compliant measured and indicated resource for Zones 1 & 2 of 257 Mlbs at a grade of 480 ppm U3O8. It also has a JORC-compliant inferred resource of 110.3Mlb at a grade of 400 ppm from Zones 1,2,3 and 4.

With further drilling scheduled on newly delineated areas, the Board of Kalahari is confident that Extract’s resource base will continue to grow, providing the company with the ground and cover to support multiple mining operations.

“The start of limited production at H is targeted for the end of Q1, 2014. Full ramp-up will probably take 15 months, so we should be producing at an annualised rate of 15Mlbs by late Q3 or early Q4 of 2015,” CEO Jonathan Leslie predicts.

Meanwhile Namibia, the world’s fourth-largest uranium producer, is considering legislative changes to ensure its citizens receive more benefit from the country’s mineral wealth, according to finance minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.

Anglo American nickel plans & Zenith Plants

28 April 2011 – Anglo American plc ‒  the diversified mining giant with about US$70 billion of expansion plans ‒ aims to more than quadruple nickel output this decade to compete better with larger rivals OAO GMK Norilsk Nickel and Vale SA.

The London-based company may produce as much as 180,000t by 2020 as it ramps up output at its Barro Alto project in Brazil and weighs up investing another US$6 billion in two new ventures in the country, Anglo nickel unit CEO Walter De Simoni said in an interview with Reuters.

Global output is expected to climb about 10%, or 163,000t, to 1.83Mt this year, according to Bank of America Corporation,  as the economic recovery boosts metals demand in construction and industry.

“The nickel business is going very well,” De Simoni, a Brazilian national, said on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum conference here. “After the 2008 crisis, the nickel business recovered faster than everybody would have thought and the price now is much stronger.”

Anglo started production at the US$1.9 billion Barro Alto nickel project in Brazil’s Goias state last month, and is aiming for average output of 41,000tpa in the first five years after attaining full capacity in 2012. The company may add a further 112,000tpa from two projects in Brazil ‒ Jacare and Morro Sem Bone ‒ which are yet to be approved and may require about US$6 billion, he said.

Anglo’s current output of 38,700t is dwarfed by that of larger rivals. Norilsk, the world’s biggest producer, said in January that output might rise to as much as 315,000t this year, 5.9 % higher than in 2010. Vale, which aims to overtake Moscow-based Norilsk, plans to reach 295,000t this year, after producing 179,000t in 2010.

Cement ball mill, is the key part of  cement mill, cement clinker mill, is the key equipment for grinding cement clinker, gypsum, limestone, clay, coal after crushing process. This is essentially a large rotating drum containing grinding media – normally steel balls. As the drum rotates, the motion of the balls crushes the clinker. The drum rotates approximately once every couple of seconds.
Grinding systems are either ‘open circuit’ or ‘closed circuit.’ In an open circuit system, the feed rate of incoming clinker is adjusted to achieve the desired fineness of the product. In a closed circuit system, coarse particles are separated from the finer product and returned for further grinding. Systems have been installed on Cement clinker, blast furnace slag, calcined alumina, calcium carbonate. Dry ball mills are effective grinding systems in the general range of 500 microns down to 5 microns.

Cement Mill is composed of feeding part, discharging part, turning part and driving part (reducer, small driving gear, electric motor and electric control). The quill shaft adopts cast steel part and the liner is detachable. The turning gearwheel adopts casting hobbling process and the drum is equipped with wear-resistant liner, which can increase mill productivity, reduce mill power consumption. Limestone of differing chemical composition is the major resource to produce cement. Limestone is carefully blended before being crushed to provide consistent chemical composition. Once these materials have been crushed, this raw material will be transferred to the raw material grinding mills. To continue Portland cement clinker is a dark grey nodular material made by heating ground limestone and clay at a temperature of about 1400 C-1500 C. The nodules are ground up to a fine powder to produce cement, with a small amount of gypsum added to control the setting properties.
Transport belt conveyor transfers the blended raw materials to hammer and ball mills where it is ground. Then the raw materials go through rotary kiln, and cement clinker will be produced.
The dry process kiln is shorter than the wet process kiln and is the most fuel-efficient method of cement production available.
In the cooler unit, the cement clinker will be transported to closed storage areas.
Different types of cement are produced by mixing and weighing proportionally the following constituents: Clinker, Gypsum, Limestone, Blast Furnace Slag. These materials are ground in cement mill and then stored in large silos. Careful quality control ensures consistent high performance of the product produced.
